Clasroom Resources Summer Suggested Work
The ABCs of 3rd Grade with Ms.Wetter!
ADORATION: We will go to the chapel every week for Adoration for 20 minutes. This is a special time to be with Jesus.

ACTIVE BYSTANDER- We are challenged to be an active bystander each and every day. Standing up to those who are harming others with words is something that takes courage but is necessary to keep bullying at bay.
BREAKFAST: Having a healthy breakfast is a wonderful start to our learning day.
BIRTHDAYS: I love birthdays, too! We will celebrate with a special birthday song. You may bring in a non food items to share with the class.
BOOK ORDER FORMS: will be sent home for you and your child to look over every month or two. Book clubs offer fantastic deals! Checks should be made payable to SCHOLASTIC or the parent ordering code is on Ms. Wetter’s classroom website.
BUCKET FILLING- Showing kindness, helping those in need, giving and receiving compliments and numerous other ways help fill yours and others buckets! Remember, everyone has an invisible bucket!
CEREAL OF THE WEEK- Each student will have the opportunity to be our “Cereal of the Week.” This will mean they will create a cereal box all about him/her to share with the class.
CURRICULUM NIGHT- Wednesday, August 22nd, K-5 will host curriculum night in their respected classroom. It will begin at 6 pm and continue until 7:00.
DAILY 5- This structure helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently that leads to a life-long learner in literacy independence. Read to Self, Work on Writing, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, and Work Word is the framework to learn with and build our stamina.
DECADE-A-DAY- We will be saying the rosary through each week. Each day will be a decade, beginning on Monday and ending on Friday. Each student will have the opportunity to help lead. We will be making a Rosary to keep in your desk.
DIBELS- The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills measures literacy development that will be administered throughout the school year.
DISMISSAL: Dismissal is at 2:50 for 3rd grade on Monday-Thursdays and 12:30 on Fridays. Ms. Wetter will be standing outside with the students who walk with her to the parking lot. With the hot weather, it is recommended to come on time to help your child get out of the heat as soon as possible.
EMAIL: is my preferred method of communication because of the quick turn-around. I will do my best to reply as soon as I am available. I am always here to help and respect your thoughts and feelings!
ENRICHMENT: Students have the opportunity to participate in Enrichment Classes. Check with the office for this fun opportunity.
FAITHFUL FRIEND- This special helper will help me with prayer each day, Adoration, song sheets for Mass, rosary help and assistance during Religion.
FIELD TRIPS: Field trips this year might be virtual or/and on campus.
FUN- Learning is fun in 3A!
GRADES- Student progress can be checked on Renweb: https://logins2.renweb.com/Logins/ParentsWeb-Login.aspx
HOMEWORK: Homework will be between 20-30 minutes/ night at the beginning of the year and progress throughout the year. Reading, practicing math facts, writing, or Bible study can always be done!
INDEPENDENCE is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence. Third graders are very capable of doing many things on their own and I encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom. Please encourage them to think through and problem-solve in everyday situations.
iPads- YAY!!! Third grade has a 1:1 iPad program.
JOURNALS (or composition books) are used daily. They may be taken home as needed for the purposes of studying or sharing, however, they should be brought back to school as they are used frequently. Our J.O.Y. Journal (Jesus, Others, & Yourself) will be used during Religion class.
KEEP INFORMED by reading Ms. Wetter’s Classroom Page. It is a great resource for assistance. (I will do my best to keep it updated!!)
LUNCH takes place at 12:09-12:29 pm. Lunch will be eaten in the classroom until it is cool enough to eat in the Ramada. There is a special table for those with allergies. Please be respectful of those with allergies as we want to keep everyone safe.
MASS- Mass is every Wednesday morning. Parents are welcome. Respectful and appropriate behavior is required during Mass, Adoration, and any and all school-wide events.
MEETINGS- We will be having a classroom meeting each week. This is to help aid in the prevention of bullying from the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program at St. John.
NURSE- Mrs. Pellon is a blessing to this school. She will help continue to keep our students safe- from recess bumps and bruises, to allergy prevention, to feeling sick. Please be sure to share with Mrs. Pellon any necessary information to help us keep your children safe.
ORGANIZATION- This skill of organization is a continued work in progress. The accordion and assignment notebook are two wonderful and effective tools that can help organize a student’s school day.
PARTIES- Our Christmas, Valentine’s and End of Year Party will be the three selected parties that will contain sweets. Other than those special events, treats are limited and not allowed in the classroom.
QUESTIONS: Instead of asking your child, “What did you do in school today?” ask, “What book did you read during D.E.A.R. time?” or “What did you learn in math?” or “Tell me what you wrote about in your J.O.Y. journal!” Show that you’re interested, and ask specific questions.
RECESS- Inclusion is a must in 3A. We are all friends and are challenged to include others, show kindness, and compromise. This is especially necessary during recess times.
REAL- We are Responsible Christian Leaders, Effective Communicators, An Independent Thinker, and a Life- Long Learner. We will be reflecting, practicing, and demonstrating !
SAFE ENVIRONMENT- All visitors must be certified with the Safe Environment training in order to step into our classroom. Please check with the office for the next available days to be certified.
SNACK: Kids need snacks! When healthy snack choices are made, they provide the nutrients and calories kids need for growth, good health and energy to get through the day. Please pack your child a healthy snack to enjoy on a daily basis.
SWITCHING- Miss Anania will be teaching Social Studies to both third grade classroom. Ms. Wetter will be teaching Science to both classrooms as well.
TEAMWORK- We are a team in 3A. We are together until May and we are going to strive for success together. Helping out our fellow neighbor is a great way to learn more and to assist our teammate.
TOADS-We have four fire bellied toads in 3A; Flame Ruby, Sparky, and Sunshine.
UNIQUE-Each student in my classroom is unique. I will do my best to differentiate instruction to ensure that all children get what they need to be successful in third grade.
VIRTUES-a virtue is a good habit. We will practice opening our hearts to grace by practicing good choices that will develop our virtues.
VOLUNTEERS: When you arrive at school to volunteer or visit, please register in the office and pick up a badge instead of coming directly to the classroom. This policy is for the safety of your children. Also, you must be Safe Environment Trained.
WATER BOTTLES: Please feel free to have your child bring a water bottle to class. Please encourage your child to bring their water bottle home regularly to wash it. This is a great way to help beat the heat and stay healthy.
WISH LIST: Treasure box prizes, top-loading sheet protectors, and gently used educational games or puzzles for indoor recess or enrichment.
WRITING- Cursive is taught and used throughout third grade. We will be starting around Christmas. Patience and stamina are used when learning this fun way to write! We will also be learning and practicing with the 6 +1 Writing Traits. Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency and Conventions!
We are off to an EXTRAORDINARILY awesome school YEAR!!! Learning will be fun and exciting and you can expect a lot of growth in so many different areas. It will seem as if the 2015-2016 school year will ZOOM by!
